Nice post! Another great reason to consult the Baum bibliography is the enormous complexity of Oz printings, where identifying a true first edition is quite a task in itself.

My first Baum book was a Grosset and Dunlap edition of "The Wizard of Oz" illustrated by Evelyn Copelman. I recently got a replacement for it in my collection. (If you click my URL, you might get an impression of how much I love Oz and Baum.)

By the way, may I congratulate you on a nicely-written piece?

Heinrich Harrer's 1988 book "Return to Tibet" is a very interesting follow-up to his "Seven Years in Tibet".
My two favourite books on Tibet are "Secret Tibet" by Fosco Maraini (1952) and "The Way of the White Clouds" by Lama Angarika Govinda (1966).

Yes, if you refer to the mylar dust-jacket protectors, you should definitely leave them on. And protect all other dust-jackets with them. Archival dust-jacket protectors (the only ones you should use), not only help maintain the condition of the dust-jacket when handling a book, they also protect from sun-light. Good vendors we use include Gaylord and Brodart.

This is very helpful as I am redoing my office/library right now. I have always loved reading and books and I have just started collecting. Some books that I have bought came with the mylar covers on them. Is it best to leave these on? And if so, should I put them on my other first edition books? And where do you buy those. Thanks for all the help!!

I'd add LA Confidential - it is such a complex book, I thought the adaptation was hugely impressive!

And a special mention for Master and Commander, as I am a massive O'Brian fan and Peter Weir did a wonderful job on that too.
